Website speed is important. It makes your visitors happy (or very unhappy). If your website is fast, your business can grow to its full potential but if it’s slow your customer won’t wait. They will leave after 3 seconds according to Google. Not just that, web speed also effects your SEO ranking. So you’d better make sure that your website is always fast and if it’s not, find out what makes your website so slow.
Your own internet is slow
First thing you need to check is your internet (one that you are using) because if it’s slow that means your website (and others) will be slow too. How to check? Use internet speed test or go to few other websites and see if they are slow too. If they are, it means there is more chance that your internet might be the reason why your web speed is slow.
Your web hosting provider probably not a good one or you pick the wrong package
Sometimes the cause of your slow web speed might be your hosting provider, especially if you have to share space and resources with other websites (yes I mean shared hosting). If they are heavy traffic websites it’s possible that they usually take all of your resources and that makes your website so slow.
Server location is not in Thailand
This one is important because server location is one of the main factors that make web speed fast. If your visitors are here in Thailand, your server location better be in Thailand too. So the problem that you are facing might be your server location.
So much stuff in your database
When you first started your new website, of course it was fast. But after running it for awhile, the website keeps getting slower. That’s because you have more files on your database. And the website is more complex than before. So the good way to fix it is find out which file is too big and take too much time to download and then get rid of it or reduce the file size. Remember some files take longer time to download such as tiff, bmp usually slow website down than jpg, png, gif
Too many visitors
This can cause you slow web speed too, especially when you use a small package or shared hosting but the amount of visitors is getting bigger everyday. Imagine if you have a small coffee shop but everyone wants to get inside. This will make everything slower inside the shop. So it’s time to upgrade your package by getting some add-on or buy new bigger package.
Too many plugins
If you are a WordPress user. You might have too many plugins on your website. Every active plugin is loaded and processed on every visit, straining the resources for your website. Each plug-in might have CSS files and javascript that are perhaps not needed but are sent on every page load. Some plugins might do complicated processing on every load. So just keep ones that you think you need and really make your website speed outstanding. Pro tip: check each plugin loading time with a plugin such as https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/.
Not unnecessary redirect
Using unnecessary redirects is just like downloading your web page twice so it doubled your time. Any redirects should be handled server-side (.htaccess), and definitely not by a CMS such as WordPress.
