Hackers have stolen the information of at least 123,000 customers in a massive data breach at two major commercial banks.
Kasikornbank and Krung Thai Bank reported cyber attacks during the last weekend
in July. About 120,000 customers who had applied for online credit online from Krung Thai Bank as well as 3,000 KBank corporate customers who used an online bank guarantee service had their personal data breached.
The attack is suspected to come from a group of local hackers.
Following the breach both banks have recruited cybersecurity experts to investigate
and improve protection for customer data and will notify affected customers. The Bank of Thailand has also instructed both banks to upgrade their security measures and establish compensation policies for affected customers.
In a related note, hackers stole personal information for 1.5 million people from
SingHealth last month, Singapore’s largest health care group, and the biggest data breach in the city-state’s history.
